Synopsis[]

Manga[]

Mark of a Lady Saint / Imitation Star Arc[]

Clement first appears after Esther escapes from a hoard of reporters upon returning to Istvan. He asks her for an interview, but when he declines, he shows her his proof that Esther's father, "Edward Blanchett" was actually Edward White, the Albion knight who murdered Prince Gilbert and his wife, Victoria. Clement's quest is interruped when Mr. Butler appears. Clement attacks Isaak but is easily overpowered by Mr. Butler's chauffeur. The reporter leaves with a warning for them to remember him.

The Crown of Thorns Arc[]

Clement plays an important part in discovering Esther's true heritage as the Crown Princess of Albion.*

While waiting for William after agreeing to meet with him, the reporter reminisences about his debut story, "The Bride of a Ghost". The story details how Lady Francis, the daughter of Duke of Belfast, was a victim of a taboo resurrection experiment nineteen years ago. Clement does not realize "Mr. Butler" is the same person as "Isaak Butler" from the Londinium Royal Acadamy of Medicine that was in his story, but he does seem to think "Mr Butler" knows more about the case than he does.

Etymology[]

Philippe Auguste was the French name of Philip II Augustus (21 August 1165 – 14 July 1223) King of France from 1180 to 1223. Philip was one of the most successful medieval French monarchs in expanding the royal demesne and the influence of the monarchy. There is also a subway of the same name, a feature referenced to in his manga portrait. "Philip" derived from the Greek Φίλιππος (Philippos, lit. "horse-loving" or "fond of horses". "August" derives from the Latin "Augustus", the first emperor of Rome, and subsquently used as a title for all Roman emperors.

Clément is the French form of Late Latin name Clemens (or sometimes of its derivative Clementius) which meant "merciful, gentle". This was the name of fourteen popes.

Clement works for the Piccadilly Gazette. "Piccadilly" is a major street in London, England. London's second most important western artery. Piccadilly is one of the widest and straightest streets in central London. It is the location of several notable London landmarks and buildings.
